Amanda Wells
Owner/Operator
Amanda’s love for animals started at a young age. Her father grew up on a pig farm in Wisconsin and her mother was an only child born and raised right here in Farmville on her family’s 280 acre cattle farm. Amanda grew up on a farm in Kansas City, Missouri; where her dad worked as an airplane mechanic for TWA. Their little farm was home to chickens, sheep, and cattle. Her family made the move back home in order to help her grandfather take care of their cattle farm when she was 11 years old.
Growing up, their farm was home to dogs, cats, sheep, and cows. With her lifelong goal to become a vet, Amanda joined Appomattox Animal Hospital as a kennel assistant when she was in high school. After graduation, she attended Longwood University with a major in Biology. During her time there, she was offered a position at Blackstone Animal Clinic with Dr. Carr.
Working at both veterinary practices, she gained a lot of experience and knowledge - not only of the grooming and medicinal variety, but she also learned that working with animals was what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. In order to make some money, Amanda took up pet-sitting jobs on the side that she continued all throughout college.
After graduating from Longwood, Amanda was still working at Blackstone and pet-sitting out of her home. Then in 2009, her family grew even more. She had her first little girl, Maddy. Around the time her second child Olivia was born, Amanda tragically lost her mother. Afterwards, she resigned from Blackstone with 10 years of employment under her belt in order to spend more time with her family while taking up pet-sitting full time.
Every year her pet-sitting business grew, she was watching a good amount of them in her own home. Until finally she decided it was time to build a kennel for the pups she cares for to stay at. After starting in 2015, it took two years for her dream to become reality. Finally, in August of 2017, Four Paw Bed & Biscuit had its grand opening.
If you visit Four Paw Bed & Biscuit often enough you are bound to run across these girls - Amanda’s daughters who love to lend a hand and help take care of the pups.
